The Problem With Aquasana And Dr. Mercola’s Water Filter

Aquasana’s Water Filter

Dr. Mercola’s “Pure & Clear” water filter

Recently I wrote an article about Dr. Mercola’s water filter. In this post Read Here I discussed the problem I see with Dr. Mercola’s water filter. I discussed the problem with NSF Certifications and saw none on his site, or the product that he was promoting. Dr. Mercola had been promoting a previous brand of water filter, (known as the “Pure & Clear”)  which is now discontinued. The new water filter he is promoting as the “Pure & Clear”   looks identical to the Aquasana but is being marketed by him and his company as the “Pure & Clear” water filter.

Now forgive me if I’m wrong, but the two product photo’s seen here look strikingly similar. However, this is not the problem. Again, my concerns are the fact that neither of these products are NSF Certified! Aquasana products are marketed by a company called “Sun Water Systems”. If you go to the NSF website and do a search, you will find that neither Sun Water Systems, Aquasana, or Dr. Mercola’s “Pure & Clear” water filters are certified and have never been NSF Certified.

Today, I again decided to do go to Dr. mercola’s Live Chat line to find out if in fact the water filter Dr. Mercola is promoting is indeed the Aquasana brand and to find out if is NSF Certified.   I chatted with a nice lady named “Jennifer” . You may follow along our chat here:

Hi, my name is Jenny. How may I help you today?
Laura says: 13:19:51
Can you tell me if the new water filters are nsf certified?
Laura says: 13:20:09
They look identical to the Aquasana brand filters.
Laura says: 13:20:13
Are they the same?
Laura says: 13:23:32
hello?
Jennifer L says: 13:23:33

The new water filtrations systems are NSF certified. Unfortunately, we do not have the manufacturers information so I can not tell you if they are manufactured by Aquasauna. I do apologize.

Laura says: 13:24:06
can you point me to the nsf certification document claims?
Jennifer L says: 13:24:31
Yes. One moment while I find the link for you.
Laura says: 13:26:53
ok
Jennifer L says: 13:29:08
At this time we do not have the NSF certification in a PDF file. I can give you the link for manual which includes the percentages of the contaminates the Pure and Clear water filter takes out. I would also be more then happy to e-mail you the NSF certification as soon as we have that available.
Laura says: 13:29:49
that link didnt work Jennifer
Jennifer L says: 13:30:47
I do apologize. I just copied and pasted it into my web browser and it pulled up the PDF file.
Laura says: 13:30:57
ok
Jennifer L says: 13:31:07
What does the link tell you when you copy and paste it?
Laura says: 13:31:32
nope.. still doesnt work
Jennifer L says: 13:32:06

Is there an error message?-

Laura says: 13:32:34
ok..it worked now. Thank you Jennifer
Jennifer L says: 13:33:18
Your very welcome! Is there anything else I can help you with today?
Laura says: 13:33:37
Thats it for now ..thanks Jennifer
Laura says: 13:34:04
Jennifer
Laura says: 13:34:16
This does not mean that it is NSF Certified.
Laura says: 13:34:27
The product is not Certified by NSF
Laura says: 13:34:48
You can not claim that a product is NSF Certified if in fact it is not.
Laura says: 13:36:00
Testing Performed under NSF Standards 42 and 53 and in accordance with the California Department of Health Services
Drinking Water Treatment Device Program. (This does not mean it is nsf certified)
Jennifer L says: 13:36:18

Our water filtration systems are certified by NSF. We do not have the certification i a PDF file yet. I do apologize. I will be more then happy to send you the link to the certification when we convert it into a PDF file as I stated earlier in our conversation.

Laura says: 13:36:31
I would need to see NSF documents
Jennifer L says: 13:37:19
As I stated earlier, I will be more then happy to provide that to you as soon as it becomes available.
Laura says: 13:37:21
Tested to NSF standards does not mean NSF certified
Laura says: 13:38:23
It is illegal to claim that a product is NSF Certified if in fact it is not. Aquasana products are not NSF Certified. It is obvious that the product Dr. Mercola is promoting is Aquasana Jennifer.
Jennifer L says: 13:42:09

Once again, we do have documentation stating that the product is NSF certified. I would be more then happy to get that e-mailed to you as soon as it becomes available. I am looking through our training notes right now to see if I can provide you with more information right now. One moment please.

Laura says: 13:42:22
k
Laura says: 13:43:52
I can tell you by going to the NSF website that there is no listing for the aquasana water filter or Dr. mercola’s pure and clear water filter Jennifer.
Laura says: 13:46:32
You may search yourself: http://nsf.com/Certified/DWTU/
Jennifer L says: 13:50:34
I do apologize for the wait. I do see that in our notes, it stares that the filtration system was certified by the Underwriters laboratories, California department of health and services and NSF. I do not see out filtration system listed on the NSF website. I will most definitely look into this matter further for you. May I e-mail you as soon as I have this situation clarified?
Laura says: 13:51:33
No need Jennifer. I am in the water filter industry, and I can tell you for a fact that the product (if it is Aquasana) Is NOT NSF certified.
Laura says: 13:52:53
You will need to be very careful when telling customers that the product is NSF Certified, since it is not. This is considered deceptive advertising and could be punishible by law.
Jennifer L says: 13:54:00
I do apologize for any confusion. I will be looking into this matter further. Is there anything else I can help you with today?
Laura says: 13:54:27
Thats it for now. Thank you Jennifer. Have a good weekend.
Jennifer L says: 13:55:00

You also.

Jennifer L left this room.
Well, there you have it again. I was seriously hoping that Dr. Mercola would do his research and promote a product that is NSF certified, but again, even he has not done his own research and has most likely himself been duped into believing that the products he is promoting is NSF certified. Take my word for it, It is Not! Always look for the NSF seal when researching water filters. Looking for customer reviews on the Aquasana water filter? Vistit this link.
This video will help you to understand why NSF certification is important when chosing a water filtration system for your home.
