The Story Big Plastic Does Not Want You To See

December 2, 2018 by Laura

Meanwhile, Big Plastic only plans to expand production. We need to chart a different course. This is a story about a plot to trash the planet and the global movement rising up to stop it. It's not that plastic waste in our world is mismanaged; it's that there is so much plastic being produced that it's unmanageable. Solutions start ...[READ MORE]

Hawaii First State To Ban Plastic Bags

February 13, 2014 by Laura

Plastic bags are the modern environmental scourge — piling up in landfills, polluting the oceans and choking wildlife. Now, Hawaii has taken a stand by becoming the first U.S. state to ban plastic bags at checkout counters. Hawaii has always valued the land, or "Aina," so the step isn't too surprising. Four of the state's five counties have passed plastic bag bans (Hawaii's Kalawao County, the only outlier, is hardly populated), the Huffington Post reported. "Being a marine state, perhaps, we ...[READ MORE]

San Francisco on Track to Become Zero Waste City

February 14, 2013 by Laura

San Francisco on Track to Become Zero Waste City Each year, Americans throw away about 250 million tons of garbage. That's roughly four pounds per person per day. You can find all manner of trash in a landfill, old bent music stands, plastic bags, and a lot of items that could have been recycled, like bottles and cardboard. Beyond the obvious blight they cause, landfills create environmental damage and emit harmful greenhouse gases. They are monuments to waste. Those concerns have prompted San ...[READ MORE]

MIDWAY – A Film By Chris Jordan

July 9, 2012 by Laura

The MIDWAY film project is a powerful visual journey into the heart of an astonishingly symbolic environmental tragedy. On one of the remotest islands on our planet, tens of thousands of baby albatrosses lie dead on the ground, their bodies filled with plastic from the Pacific Garbage Patch. Returning to the island over several years, our team is witnessing the cycles of life and death of these birds as a multi-layered metaphor for our times. With photographer Chris Jordan as our guide, we walk ...[READ MORE]

Welcome to the water filter lady’s blog! Meet Laura…

I have been in the water filter business since 2006. My goal is to help educate you. Deciding to drink filtered tap water instead of bottled water can have huge benefits for the earth. We can eliminate unnecessary waste going into our landfills and oceans, cut back on the energy it takes to produce and transport the bottles, reduce our exposure to harmful chemicals like BPA, and stop supporting an industry moving to turn water from a common resource into an expensive commodity.
