The Hard Facts About Bottled Water

January 4, 2017 by Laura

The Hard Facts About Bottled Water Have you ever thought about that bottle of water you’re drinking? Most of us consume bottled water in massive quantities without giving it a second thought. We buy it by the case, burn through the bottles, and then toss them in the trash. And we do all this without considering the cost of making bottled water. It’s understandable. There are times when clean water simply isn’t available and you have to drink prepackaged water. But before making decisions ...[READ MORE]

Hawaii First State To Ban Plastic Bags

February 13, 2014 by Laura

Plastic bags are the modern environmental scourge — piling up in landfills, polluting the oceans and choking wildlife. Now, Hawaii has taken a stand by becoming the first U.S. state to ban plastic bags at checkout counters. Hawaii has always valued the land, or "Aina," so the step isn't too surprising. Four of the state's five counties have passed plastic bag bans (Hawaii's Kalawao County, the only outlier, is hardly populated), the Huffington Post reported. "Being a marine state, perhaps, we ...[READ MORE]

Unacceptable Levels – A film about chemicals in our bodies and how they got there

October 1, 2013 by Laura

Over 80,000 chemicals flow through our system of commerce, and many are going straight into our bodies. Even our unborn children are affected. Due to this constant exposure, we have approximately 200 synthetic industrial chemicals interacting with our cells every single day. Until recently, modern science really didn’t understand what that could mean for all of us in the long run, but that is changing. Globally, disease rates are on the rise. Theories about the causes abound, yet the issues ...[READ MORE]

Blue Marbles Project: Share Random Acts of Gratitude!

August 3, 2013 by Laura

Born from the wildly popular, absurdly simple, neuroscience-based initiative of marine biologist Wallace J. Nichols, the Blue Marbles Project is an environmental/social outreach campaign that seeks to reconnect people to our water planet through the science of gratitude. The project began on Jacques Cousteau’s 100th birthday, nearly three years ago and has expanded rapidly around the world. To date, Blue Marbles have been shared globally with millions of people in celebration of our beautiful, ...[READ MORE]

Plastic – A Cancer In Our Environment

July 2, 2011 by Laura

Plastic – A Cancer In Our Environment- Florida Keys Wildlife Rescue Silently spreading, leaching toxins, maiming and killing, plastics, the darling of modern society because of their versatility and heretofore low cost, are beginning to show their true colors. Derived from chemically-altered petroleum and often combined with toxic additives, plastics are no longer inexpensive to produce, due to increasing oil prices, nor are they inert products; they release toxins into the environment. Welcome to the water filter lady’s blog! Meet Laura…

I have been in the water filter business since 2006. My goal is to help educate you. Deciding to drink filtered tap water instead of bottled water can have huge benefits for the earth. We can eliminate unnecessary waste going into our landfills and oceans, cut back on the energy it takes to produce and transport the bottles, reduce our exposure to harmful chemicals like BPA, and stop supporting an industry moving to turn water from a common resource into an expensive commodity.
