December 2, 2018 by Laura

The Plastic Bag Diet We are in a plastic crisis. Plastic pollution is everywhere we look, smothering our oceans and poisoning communities around the world. Meanwhile, Big Plastic only plans to expand production. We need to chart a different course. This is a story about a plot to trash the planet and the global movement rising up to stop it. Starbucks to Stop Using Plastic Straws by 2020

July 12, 2018 by Laura Leave a Comment

On Monday, coffee giant Starbucks announced a phase out of plastic straws globally in its stores by 2020. The announcement came after months of pressure by more than 20 environmental organizations asking Starbucks to stop polluting the planet with single-use plastic. The company said the move to eliminate plastic straws would remove more than one ...[READ MORE]

Hawaii First State To Ban Plastic Bags

February 13, 2014 by Laura

Plastic bags are the modern environmental scourge — piling up in landfills, polluting the oceans and choking wildlife. Now, Hawaii has taken a stand by becoming the first U.S. state to ban plastic bags at checkout counters. Hawaii has always valued the land, or "Aina," so the step isn't too surprising. Four of the state's five counties have passed plastic bag bans (Hawaii's Kalawao County, the only outlier, is hardly populated), the Huffington Post reported. "Being a marine state, perhaps, we ...[READ MORE]

Plastic Recycling Can Make A Difference

November 9, 2013 by Laura

In 2011, the U.S. generated 32 million tons of plastic waste, accounting for near 13 percent of the nation’s total garbage, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. This waste included nearly 14 million tons of plastic packaging and containers, roughly 11 million tons of durable goods such as household appliances, and almost seven million tons of non durable goods, such as cups, plates, and utensils. Plastic Water Bottles Causing Flood of Harm to Our Environment

July 30, 2013 by Laura

Plastic Water Bottles Causing Flood of Harm to Our Environment Author: Norm SchrieverAuthor, humorist, cultural mad scientist, and enemy of the comfort zone. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ I remember the first time I saw a bottle of water for sale, thinking it was the most ridiculous thing I'd ever encountered. Who the heck would actually PAY to drink water when they could get it for free at home? That's just crazy! I drank out of the faucet every single day, or the garden hose in a pinch, and ...[READ MORE]

Bottled Water: How It Costs You And The Environment More Than You Think

June 18, 2013 by Laura

Bottled Water: How It Costs You And The Environment More Than You Think For many years, bottled water has been considered safe and convenient. Primarily because bottled water companies have falsely claimed their product is better for consumers because it’s either purified or natural spring water, when it is merely tap water. It's uneconomical and has been untruthfully marketed as healthier for you than tap water. Although consumers know it is overpriced and proven to be only "treated", around ...[READ MORE]

Welcome to the water filter lady’s blog! Meet Laura…

I have been in the water filter business since 2006. My goal is to help educate you. Deciding to drink filtered tap water instead of bottled water can have huge benefits for the earth. We can eliminate unnecessary waste going into our landfills and oceans, cut back on the energy it takes to produce and transport the bottles, reduce our exposure to harmful chemicals like BPA, and stop supporting an industry moving to turn water from a common resource into an expensive commodity.
